The best time to visit Tawang is in between the month of October and May. After May, the monsoon arrives in certain parts of Arunachal Pradesh, and due to heavy rainfall sometimes the travel through road becomes difficult. The ideal time to visit Tawang would be during winter, in between December and February. However, the landscapes of Tawang offers picturesque beauty of different colors throughout the year.
The beauty of panoramic landscapes, majestic snow-clad mountains and blue lakes, along with the warm greetings from the local Monpa tribes of the area makes the Tawang trip special. Apart from that, Tawang also preserves the history of Indo-China war of 1962 through the stories passed along the generations of people.
Tawang is nearly 450 kilometers away from Guwahati.
At first you will have to reach Guwahati from any other parts of India. From Guwahati, you can reach Tawang by road. Helicopter services are also available, but they're not very frequent.
For an ideal Tawang tour covering all the places in Tawang and nearby areas, you will need 7 days and 6 nights. You can, however, increase or decrease the number of days by sacrificing or adding some of the sightseeing and and some comfort in journey.
It is advisable that you plan your trip to Tawang at least two months before the journey date. Planning a trip to Tawang is not that hard, however, limited number of available hotels/accommodations in the region may sometimes lead to inconveniences. It is perfectly safe to travel to Tawang in between October and May. Sometimes, once in a blue moon, there might be slight complications during extreme snowfalls in December and January; but that is not an issue as the roads are usually cleared within couple of hours. However, it is not advisable to travel to Tawang by road during the monsoon season (June through August).
Tawang region definitely witness snowfall during every winter. If you are planning to see some snow in Tawang, the ideal time to visit would be in between December and February. (Please note that snowfall is subjected to weather patterns, and hence it is not guaranteed)
If you're visiting Tawang in winter, you will definitely need to pack your bags with warm clothes and accessories. For Autumn and Spring, however, you will just need a sweatshirt or sweater.

Inner Line Permits (ILP) can be obtained online from Arunachal Pradesh Government's dedicated website. Alternatively, you can obtained the permits offline by visiting the Arunachal Pradesh tourism office or the Arunachal House or the Office of Deputy Resident Commissioner situated in New Delhi or Kolkata or Guwahati. The Guwahati Airport also has a dedicated stall for obtaining ILP.

Mahavir Chakra Jaswant Singh Rawat, with his wit and bravery, was able to single-handedly halt the aggression of Chinese soldiers for 72 hours in Nuranang, Arunachal Pradesh during the Indo-China War of 1962. The memorial is built in the memory of Jaswant Singh Rawat for remembering his supreme sacrifice for the country, and to pass on the exemplary stories of war for the future generations.
